Abstract
Our research work concerns the development of a Decision Support System (DSS) for real-time rescheduling of railway traffic under disturbances which cause the nominal scheduling to be impracticable and provoke discomfort to customers. We develop a DSS for automatic real-time railway rescheduling while minimizing delays at each station and improving the robustness of the rescheduled timetable. The proposed DSS makes use of the railway topology and of a three step rescheduling procedure. The effectivness of the DSS is applied to a regional railway network in Southern Italy constituted mostly by single tracks with few double track segments, and many unit capacity stations.
